Undoubtedly, Urdu is the national language of Pakistan and the national languages are supposed to untie the nations. So, by this theory the Urdu language should be able to solve the social conflict in Pakistan. But does it? Does Urdu solve social conflicts of Pakistan? The answer is no.
Another bitter piece of information is that the Urdu language is the source of many social problems in Pakistan. A great deal of resentment occupied the mind of the people of the newly born Pakistan when Urdu was declared its national language. Why is Urdu the national language of Pakistan? Eight percent of the population of Pakistan speaks Urdu. So why is it given so much importance? What was the vision of Quaid-e-Azam when he decided to do so? No one knows.
However, the masses have perceived that this step was just to undermine the importance of the regional languages. So they do not feel comfortable in speaking Urdu. They just speak their mother tongue. If they have to speak in Urdu, they try hard to contaminate it with words from their regional language and the English language.
So it there any hope for Urdu language. Is it going to survive? There can be no solid answer. Only if masses can realize the importance of Urdu it can survive. People will need to accept that the Urdu language is now the only common platform the Pakistanis have. If they lose it, they lose everything. Only time will tell about the future of the Urdu language.
