Urdu Popular Fiction

Usually in the development of the language, all the credit is given to its poetry and prose. People conveniently overlook the contribution of popular fiction. The Urdu language has also always undergone this phenomenon.
It is a surprising fact that the critics and the literary figure have never recognized the services of popular fiction to the Urdu language. The most widely distributed Urdu popular fiction comes in the form of the monthly digests. These digests are published in Pakistan but they are widely distributed in India too. Other than that, these digests have a great following in the UK, Middle East, and the United States.
The names of the most reputed Urdu popular fiction digests are Khawateen Digest, Pakeezah, and Shua. Many people also do not know that starting these monthly digests to make Urdu reach the women of every home in Pakistan was the vision of Ibn-e-Insha, the famous Urdu poet and writer.
The Urdu speaking people all over the world know about the writers of these digests. Some extremely famous TV writers too used to write in these digests. Umaira Ahmed is one famous example. She used to write in these digests and her writings were extremely popular. Eventually she made her way to the script and drama writing for the mainstream Urdu TV serials.
Most of the Urdu popular fiction writers have an excellent command on the language. Their stories are logical and insightful. In the Indian subcontinent the popular fiction should be promoted for the cause of Urdu language.
