Urdu Poet, Mir Taqi Mir’s Death Anniversary

Several poets, critics, writer, intellectuals and literati of Rawalpindi and Islamabad (twin cities of Pakistan) gather in National Language Authority (NLA) on last Thursday to observe the 200th death anniversary of great Urdu poet Mir Taqi Mir, who is also termed as immortal poet of Urdu Literature.

The speaker of NLA stated that Mir was a remarkable poet who actually introduced ghazals in Urdu literature in its true sense. He was pioneers of Urdu Poetry and the foundation builder of the Urdu Poetry. In his poetry the most commonly seen poetry theme was Love or love unfulfilled because it was his favorite theme for poetry.

The chairman of National Language Authority (NLA), Iftikhar Arif in the introduction to the event he recalled his days of Lucknow which was his birth place, where he discussed a play ground in which there was a grave. He thought that it was the grave of Mir Taqi Mir. The grave was not actually of Mir, In war of Independence 1857, The British destroyed the Mir's grave. He then stated "Mir stayed permanently in the minds of youths who used to quote his verses in a torrent. In fact he was among those poets whose verses were remembered and oft quoted,"
