Urdu is a sweet, dynamic, and beautiful language. It is truly a sorry state of affairs that Urdu newspapers are constantly on a road of declining these days.
The experts and the Urdu language enthusiasts are surprised and alarmed by this trend. Why the Urdu newspapers are are in such a poor condition? Despite the beauty and the cultural history of the language why is it not flourishing? What is wrong with the Urdu journalism? These are some of the most pertinent questions of these days.
One of the main reasons of the decline of the Urdu language is that the Urdu speaking communities are doing criminal negligence to the development of their language. They have stopped taking pride in their language, which is a very bad sign. These days’ people prefer subscribing to the English newspapers because they think that it is a more ‘educated’ and ‘trendy’ decision. They do not even bother to introduce their children to the Urdu language.
It is a shameful state of affairs. We should take example of the Bengalis. They are a homogenous and united nation who takes deep pride in speaking and promoting their own language. Any average Bengali would always prefer reading Bengali newspaper instead of English.
Because of the lack of interest of people, the Urdu newspapers do not get enough advertisements to feed their staff and to initiate interesting projects. So in short, it is the lack of interest and enthusiasm of people, which is responsible for this sorry trend.
