Urdu Poetry of Mirza Ghalib

Mirza Asad Ullah khan Beg Ghalib is a great contributor to the Urdu literature. He was a poet of the 18th century. He was a trendsetter in the Urdu poetry.
Ghalib’s personal life had always been disturbed. He was married at a very young age. He never had a reliable source of income. He was a habitual alcoholic. His wife used to suffer due to his lack of attention. Mirza Ghalib have had children but most of them died at a very young age. Therefore, he was not a happy man. This combination proved to be excellent for some masterpieces of Urdu poetry.
It is ironic yet true that Mirza Ghalib did not get any recognition for his work in his own life. This is a tragedy that other Urdu speakers and poets of that tie used to make fun of Ghalib’s poetry. The royals of that time too favored other poets and looked down upon Ghalib.Ghalib wanted the English to recognize his talent but they too did not respond in the desired manner. Ghalib was deeply humiliated. This constant humiliation also forced Ghalib to simple throw away much of his poetry.
Today Deewan-e-Ghalib is considered a treasure of the Urdu poetry and literature. However, many people do not know that it does not contain all of the Ghalib’s productions. This is a very sad and sorry state of affairs. Of course, the people from the Ghalib’s era are to blame. However, the society must take notes to respect the poets and artists of the present.
